Ray Yungen

I just finished A Time of Departing today. What a thorough, yet cordial expose. Well done. I always admire those who can expose the errors of others without slinging mud.

So thank you for your book and for all the countless hours you must wade through such dark stuff in preparation. I have prayed for you all (all those sounding the alarms) ever since I became a Christian 5 years ago, and realized what my sister was caught up in (word faith movement). I have had a crash course in all that is wrong with the church at large in just a few short years. And I am so grateful for all you faithful servants who are standing watch and alerting those with ears to hear. I am one of those, and I pray that is my course til I go home. It is frightening to see who is “wandering off the reservation” so to speak. We must be so diligent in our walk.

Well I won’t keep you, just wanted to thank you and let you know you and your staff are in my prayers.

God bless you all, B.

Lighthouse Trails Announces New Release – The Gospel in Bonds by Georgi Vins – A True Story

Sep 8th, 2014 Posted in new releases, PRODUCT SPOTLIGHT | Comments Off on Lighthouse Trails Announces New Release – The Gospel in Bonds by Georgi Vins – A True Story

Lighthouse Trails is pleased to announce the release of their latest book, The Gospel in Bonds: 8 years in the soviet gulags—imprisoned for his faith by former Soviet prisoner Georgi Vins.

A Soviet government tried to extinguish God’s Truth by placing its messengers in bonds. But the light of God’s Word and its hope of salvation could not be destroyed even in the darkest prison camp.

Gospe-In-Bonds

Georgi Vins, a Baptist pastor living in the U.S.S.R., was 37-years-old the first time he was imprisoned for his faith in a Soviet prison camp. He left behind his wife, his children, and his church. Over the course of thirteen years, Pastor Vins spent a total of eight years in the gulags.

But in the pages of this book, you won’t read about a man who felt sorry for himself or who wallowed in the misery of his sufferings. Rather, you will hear the true stories of believers whose faith in Jesus Christ took preeminence in their lives and who allowed nothing, not even a Communist government, to take away their faith and their hope.

Threaded through The Gospel in Bonds is an intricately woven theme of love for God’s Word and faith in the Gospel, even in the midst of severe punishment and deprivation.

May the pages of this book give you insight into the mind of a man uniquely used by God and encourage you to an ever-closer walk with the Savior, Jesus Christ!

Lighthouse Trails is pleased to announce the release of Dangerous Illusions (the sequel to Castles in the Sand).

With the death of its long-time pastor, Sheep Gate Lane Church’s membership drops and is fast becoming a relic of the past. Desperate for a resurgence and renewal, the deacons cast a wide net, hoping to reel in a new and invigorating pastor. At the sudden appearance of young, handsome William “Chip” Davis, church attendance soars and the offering basket is full to overflowing. Loved by everyone, Chip’s vibrancy and his unconventional ideas are turning Sheep Gate Lane Church into the county center of a revival movement.

But insidious forces are at work behind the veneer of success. Subtly merging traditional Christianity with pseudo-Christian mysticism, Chip slowly reveals the wolf beneath his sheep’s apparel. When he is joined at the church podium by a mysterious nun who has evil plans of her own, the entire congregation is caught in the maelstrom of false religion and finds itself in a very real spiritual war.

In this sequel to the novel Castles in the Sand, you’ll meet again the characters you grew to love—weary Jacob Brown and his patient wife Margaret, stalwart Nathan, and a now world-wise Tessa who comes home to find herself the target of an unseen killer’s vengeance. Revealing the outward loveliness of spiritual deception, Dangerous Illusions is a taut thriller with an ultimate message of hope and deliverance through Jesus Christ.

WHAT OTHERS HAVE SAID ABOUT CASTLES IN THE SAND

[A] believable, action-packed plot … [a] fantastic effort. “Castles in the Sand ” is definitely an eye-opener!…Lighthouse is now a leading publisher of conservative Christian titles and serves a key role in a dwindling class of [publishing] houses that are not afraid to be politically incorrect. Major kudos to Lighthouse Trails Publishing for taking on this important project.–Jim Fletcher, WorldNetDaily

A great read. The author has real talent. Characters like Gramps are amazingly well-sketched. Good story lay-out too, with flashes of humor. The story makes what is happening in schools & churches clear in a way mere reporting can’t. E.L., Pennsylvania, US

An excellent story with an urgent message. Teenaged/college-aged girls will want to read this book because the main character is their age and they will be intrigued by “a mysterious young man who reaches out to help Tessa. Additionally, parents and grandparents of young adults will want to read the book because of the subtle implication of the spiritual danger involved in things such as lectio divina, contemplative prayer etc. And if their sons and daughters are in Christian colleges, these words are now likely a part of their children’s regular vocabulary, and naive, uninformed parents will immediately have their interest piqued when they read those words. D.H., Alberta, Canada

I’m on my second reading of Castles in the Sand. It is even better the second time!! The bonus book you sent me has been read by several people. Hannah [14 year old daughter] was the first to read the book in our house, and it equipped her to address her youth group about the terror of Avila. The leader was recommending they read Teresa of Avila’s work. Hannah spoke right up about how bad it is. You could hear a pin drop, the way the kids were so attentive. K.R., Kansas

“Another Jesus” Calling Book Review: A Little Gem to Help You Steer Clear of Deception

Feb 16th, 2014 Posted in Book/DVD Reviews, PRODUCT SPOTLIGHT | Comments Off on “Another Jesus” Calling Book Review: A Little Gem to Help You Steer Clear of Deception

A Review of “Another Jesus” Calling by Warren B. Smith“Person to Person Calling” was a particular kind of telephone call, that I as a telephone operator, performed over and over in the days before unlimited long distance rates.  And this “person to person” calling is what Sarah Young purported to have heard in her best selling book Jesus Calling.

The question for us is:  “Was Jesus Calling?”  Former New Ager, Warren B. Smith, gives us the answer in his provocative little book: “Another Jesus” Calling.  And the answer, Smith most decisively proves, is this, “No, Jesus was not calling!”  And here’s why:

Saturating his thirty concerns with scripture, as to why Jesus did not personally speak with Sarah Young, Smith lays out a precise picture providing us with a book of which you can, with confidence, share with skeptical friends or family that have been deceived into devouring Young’s channeled devotional.

Smith first introduces us to Sarah Young, who seems like an unlikely person to have been lured into receiving channeled messages from “another Jesus,” having once been a student at Francis Schaeffer’s L’Abri, but in spite of  this background this was where Sarah became aware of a lovely presence whom she called “Sweet Jesus.”

Smith next introduces us to God Calling- the book Sarah embraced  before she, too, became a listener with pen in hand.  In this section Smith provides numerous scriptures along with each of his ten concerns, as to why God was not calling those two lady listeners; and as to why Sarah was deceived from the get-go when she based her own book on the listener’s spiritual dictation. Bible Verse Tea Review: “The Best I’ve Tasted”

By Books and Chocolate Blog

One of my favorite publishers in the Christian genre is Lighthouse Trails Research and Publishing. Besides the excellent books available, they also have a sister company called The Shepherd’s Garden that includes an exclusive line of certified organic tea that is the best I’ve tasted – and perfect to enjoy with a good book which is why I’m including a review of them at this book blog!

The Cranberry Orange Rooibos is my favorite but the Vanilla Almond Rooibos is a close second. Other flavors include Chai Green, Peppermint, Peach White, and Spicy Red Chai that can be purchased separately (20 teabags per box for $6.95) or you can try a sampler box that includes an assortment of all the flavors. Each individually-wrapped teabag has a Bible verse on the tag that adds a lovely note of encouragement to an already enjoyable experience.

Book Review: The Other Side of the River by Kevin Reeves

Jan 24th, 2014 Posted in Book/DVD Reviews, PRODUCT SPOTLIGHT | Comments Off on Book Review: The Other Side of the River by Kevin Reeves

From Books and Chocolate Blog

The Other Side of the River by Kevin Reeves, Lighthouse Trails Publishing, $12.95 list price, paperback.

The Other Side of the River is Kevin Reeves’ biographical account of his time spent involved with a church that was part of a movement called the “River”, also known as the River Revival, the Third Wave, and the Latter Rain. This movement includes many Word of Faith and prosperity gospel preachers such as Kenneth Copeland, Benny Hinn, Jesse DuPlantis, Bill Johnson, Kenneth Hagin, and others.

Reeves began to question the claims of outrageous and unbibilcal spiritual manifestations and soon discovered blatant discrepancies between what his church leaders were teaching and what scripture really said. The more of the elements of false teaching he uncovered, the more he found himself a target of threats and alienation from other church members but no matter what the cost, he was determined to save himself, his family, and as many other members of his congregation as he could.

Some of the topics Reeves addresses as false teaching include the Word of Faith/Prosperity Gospel movement, seeking “signs and wonders”, valuing experience over scripture, holy laughter, being “slain” in the spirit, visions and prophecies, the misuse of spiritual gifts, questionable worship practices, encouraging mystical experiences, the emphasis of Jesus’ humanity over his deity, claims that we are gods ourselves, and seeking to establish the kingdom of God here and now on Earth, to name a few.
What Reeves frequently observed was that if someone supposedly had an unusual experience or manifestation, the validity of his or her claim was rarely questioned.

Book Review: “Another Jesus” Calling – A valuable resource that every Christian needs to read

Dec 28th, 2013 Posted in Book/DVD Reviews, PRODUCT SPOTLIGHT | Comments Off on Book Review: “Another Jesus” Calling – A valuable resource that every Christian needs to read

From Books and Chocolate Blog

A few years ago I purchased a copy of Jesus Calling by Sarah Young because it came so highly recommended. After reading the introduction and several9780989509336 entries I knew something wasn’t right and I got rid of the book. Maybe it was the audacity of someone presuming to speak in the first person on behalf of Jesus, or maybe it was because this “Jesus” didn’t sound like the Jesus I knew from scripture. “Another Jesus” Calling by Warren B. Smith addresses these valid concerns and why Young’s “Jesus” is not the Jesus of the Bible.

One issue with Young’s “Jesus” is that he uses New Age terminology and concepts that the real Christ doesn’t. For example, he invites the reader to become his “channel”. He describes himself as being above all and in all, a concept consistent with the New Age teaching of God Transcendent and God Immanent in every form of life.

He suggests that the reader “take a road less traveled” (hinting at M. Scott Peck’s book) and that to go “out on a limb” (the title of Shirley MacLaine’s book) with him is the safest place to be. As Smith writes, “…the true Jesus Christ is quite aware of these mega bestselling New Age books. It defies reason that he would make any kind of positive reference – directly or indirectly – to the titles of two of the most popular New Age books published in the last three decades. Taking “a road less traveled” with M. Scott Peck is not what we are called to do. Going “out on a limb” with Shirley MacLaine is not the safest place to be.”

Book Review: How to Protect Your Child From the New Age & Spiritual Deception

Dec 21st, 2013 Posted in Book/DVD Reviews, PRODUCT SPOTLIGHT | Comments Off on Book Review: How to Protect Your Child From the New Age & Spiritual Deception

From Books and Chocolate

Protecting our children from spiritual deception can seem a daunting task but How to Protect Your Child from the New Age & Spiritual Deception offers hope with practical steps Christian parents can take to become proactive in recognizing the dangers their children face while also teaching them to discern biblical truth. Berit Kjos has done her homework and documents how children and teens are being targeted with New Age and occultic messages through every form of media and in school curriculum and programs.

Some of the influence is attractively packaged in the form of a heroic young wizard, magical cats and ponies, powerful ninja warriors combating evil, cool anime characters, and vampire lovers. Other not so obvious messages come in the form of nature worship or Eastern religion type meditation disguised in schools as a quiet time of “mindfulness,” “centering,” or “visualization.”

Most surprising to me was that the Girl Scouts of America are on board as they now discourage the use of Christian emphasis in meetings but promote New Age spirituality in the form of yoga and meditation. The 2010 GSA brochure for their National Council Sessions stated, “Channel your inner-being. Be one with your mind, body and soul. Yoga for everyone!” (p.252) Kjos also documents that GSA has partnered with the Ashland Institute whose “Coming Into Your Own” program’s aim is to “create a team of adult champions who will model a search for integrated leadership that springs from a deep sense of self-knowledge.” The Ashland Institute also teaches a form of metaphysical energy healing described as “creative energy practice” which “deepens connection with the Source of Life” and the group is also partnered with The Fetzer Institute which offers a broad assortment of mystical, New Age/New Spirituality resources. (p. 253)

PRESS ANNOUNCEMENT – LIGHTHOUSE TRAILS NEW BOOK RELEASE

Nov 25th, 2013 Posted in new releases, PRODUCT SPOTLIGHT, Publishing News | Comments Off on PRESS ANNOUNCEMENT – LIGHTHOUSE TRAILS NEW BOOK RELEASE

Another Jesus CallingEureka, MT – November 25, 2013 – Lighthouse Trails is pleased to announce the release of “Another Jesus” Calling.

Are you one of the nine million people who has read Sarah Young’s New York Times best seller, Jesus Calling? Or do you have a family member or friend who uses Jesus Calling as a daily devotional? Or are you someone who is using discernment in your own spiritual life but feels confused about the direction in which you see so many you know going? If any of these is the case for you, then Warren B. Smith’s new book, “Another Jesus” Calling, is a crucial read.

Revealing how countless numbers of people are following a counterfeit Christ, and using Sarah Young’s Jesus Calling as an example, Smith exposes the plan of the enemy to deceive the masses by subtle and not so subtle means.

Inspired by the New Age book God Calling, Sarah Young claims to be receiving messages from Jesus Christ. Former New Age follower Warren Smith carefully documents his concerns about her book, her “Jesus,” and the New Age implications contained in many of Young’s devotional messages. He also warns about the danger of contemplative prayer and in elevating spiritual experiences over the Word of God. “Another Jesus” Calling is his call for much needed discernment in these very deceptive times.

For those who have read Jesus Calling and been troubled by it but didn’t know why, “Another Jesus” Calling will give substance to your concerns and will equip you to help your friends who may be reading Young’s book also. And if you have read Jesus Calling and see nothing wrong with it, consider the claims of “Another Jesus” Calling.

Beyond all this, “Another Jesus” Calling serves as a discernment tool in rightly handling the Word of God. You will lay down this book with renewed understanding of the essential role of the Bible and the Gospel message in keeping on (or returning to) the right path.

Standing Fast in the Last Days DVD Back in Production

Nov 12th, 2013 Posted in Book/DVD Reviews, Conferences/Lectures, Excerpts, new releases, PRODUCT SPOTLIGHT | Comments Off on Standing Fast in the Last Days DVD Back in Production

Lighthouse Trails is pleased to announce that it has brought Warren B. Smith’s lecture DVD Standing Fast in the Last Days back into production.

Standing-Fast-in-the-Last-DaysOn June 5th, 2008, former New Age follower Warren Smith spoke to 800 pastors at the Calvary Chapel Senior Pastors’ Conference in Murrieta, California. This took place because of a personal invitation by Chuck Smith, the late founder of the Calvary Chapel movement. Integrating his compelling testimony, Warren shared his deep concerns regarding the spiritual deception taking place in the church today. Covering topics such as the Emerging Church, Purpose-Driven, the New Age, and what is being called the New Spirituality, Warren exposed what may be the signs of a great falling away that the Bible has predicted will happen in the days before Christ’s return. Some of the topics Warren addressed were: the influence of Oprah Winfrey and Robert Schuller, a growing hostility toward biblical Christians, a plan for a false world peace, how mysticism is becoming an integral part of today’s society, and the interspiritual, ecumenical movement that is gaining momentum and deceiving many.
