Ray Yungen

I just finished A Time of Departing today. What a thorough, yet cordial expose. Well done. I always admire those who can expose the errors of others without slinging mud.

So thank you for your book and for all the countless hours you must wade through such dark stuff in preparation. I have prayed for you all (all those sounding the alarms) ever since I became a Christian 5 years ago, and realized what my sister was caught up in (word faith movement). I have had a crash course in all that is wrong with the church at large in just a few short years. And I am so grateful for all you faithful servants who are standing watch and alerting those with ears to hear. I am one of those, and I pray that is my course til I go home. It is frightening to see who is “wandering off the reservation” so to speak. We must be so diligent in our walk.

Well I won’t keep you, just wanted to thank you and let you know you and your staff are in my prayers.

God bless you all, B.

Book Review: In My Father’s House The Years Before the Hiding Place By Corrie Ten Boom

Corrie Ten Boom’s delightful and excellently written book is full of significant biblical values that Corrie’s parents taught their children.

This book gives us a sneak-peak of what her life was like before the discrimination she suffered at the hands of the Nazis.

Corrie’s parents taught her at an early age to look to the Lord for all her needs, to turn to him in prayer and in times of trouble, and in everything seek His will.  She learned at an early age the power of prayer (James 5:16).

This book covers her childhood and her adulthood. Before I had started reading this book, I had seen the movie The Hiding Place, so I was curious as to how Corrie’s past had prepared her for her work daring to deify the Nazis along with her family.

The book is filled with wonderful and amusing memories of what her life was like when she was a little girl. The ten Boom family wasn’t perfect – they had their trials, joys, and struggles -but what I really appreciated throughout the whole book was that each of them strived to live for God’s glory in this sin fallen world.

“Another Jesus” Calling Book Review: A Little Gem to Help You Steer Clear of Deception

A Review of “Another Jesus” Calling by Warren B. Smith“Person to Person Calling” was a particular kind of telephone call, that I as a telephone operator, performed over and over in the days before unlimited long distance rates.  And this “person to person” calling is what Sarah Young purported to have heard in her best selling book Jesus Calling.

The question for us is:  “Was Jesus Calling?”  Former New Ager, Warren B. Smith, gives us the answer in his provocative little book: “Another Jesus” Calling.  And the answer, Smith most decisively proves, is this, “No, Jesus was not calling!”  And here’s why:

Saturating his thirty concerns with scripture, as to why Jesus did not personally speak with Sarah Young, Smith lays out a precise picture providing us with a book of which you can, with confidence, share with skeptical friends or family that have been deceived into devouring Young’s channeled devotional.

Smith first introduces us to Sarah Young, who seems like an unlikely person to have been lured into receiving channeled messages from “another Jesus,” having once been a student at Francis Schaeffer’s L’Abri, but in spite of  this background this was where Sarah became aware of a lovely presence whom she called “Sweet Jesus.”

Smith next introduces us to God Calling- the book Sarah embraced  before she, too, became a listener with pen in hand.  In this section Smith provides numerous scriptures along with each of his ten concerns, as to why God was not calling those two lady listeners; and as to why Sarah was deceived from the get-go when she based her own book on the listener’s spiritual dictation. Bible Verse Tea Review: “The Best I’ve Tasted”

One of my favorite publishers in the Christian genre is Lighthouse Trails Research and Publishing. Besides the excellent books available, they also have a sister company called The Shepherd’s Garden that includes an exclusive line of certified organic tea that is the best I’ve tasted – and perfect to enjoy with a good book which is why I’m including a review of them at this book blog!

The Cranberry Orange Rooibos is my favorite but the Vanilla Almond Rooibos is a close second. Other flavors include Chai Green, Peppermint, Peach White, and Spicy Red Chai that can be purchased separately (20 teabags per box for $6.95) or you can try a sampler box that includes an assortment of all the flavors. Each individually-wrapped teabag has a Bible verse on the tag that adds a lovely note of encouragement to an already enjoyable experience.

Book Review: The Other Side of the River by Kevin Reeves

Jan 24th, 2014 Posted in Book/DVD Reviews, PRODUCT SPOTLIGHT | Comments Off on Book Review: The Other Side of the River by Kevin Reeves

From Books and Chocolate Blog

The Other Side of the River by Kevin Reeves, Lighthouse Trails Publishing, $12.95 list price, paperback.

The Other Side of the River is Kevin Reeves’ biographical account of his time spent involved with a church that was part of a movement called the “River”, also known as the River Revival, the Third Wave, and the Latter Rain. This movement includes many Word of Faith and prosperity gospel preachers such as Kenneth Copeland, Benny Hinn, Jesse DuPlantis, Bill Johnson, Kenneth Hagin, and others.

Reeves began to question the claims of outrageous and unbibilcal spiritual manifestations and soon discovered blatant discrepancies between what his church leaders were teaching and what scripture really said. The more of the elements of false teaching he uncovered, the more he found himself a target of threats and alienation from other church members but no matter what the cost, he was determined to save himself, his family, and as many other members of his congregation as he could.

Some of the topics Reeves addresses as false teaching include the Word of Faith/Prosperity Gospel movement, seeking “signs and wonders”, valuing experience over scripture, holy laughter, being “slain” in the spirit, visions and prophecies, the misuse of spiritual gifts, questionable worship practices, encouraging mystical experiences, the emphasis of Jesus’ humanity over his deity, claims that we are gods ourselves, and seeking to establish the kingdom of God here and now on Earth, to name a few.
What Reeves frequently observed was that if someone supposedly had an unusual experience or manifestation, the validity of his or her claim was rarely questioned.

Book Review: “Another Jesus” Calling – A valuable resource that every Christian needs to read

Dec 28th, 2013 Posted in Book/DVD Reviews, PRODUCT SPOTLIGHT | Comments Off on Book Review: “Another Jesus” Calling – A valuable resource that every Christian needs to read

From Books and Chocolate Blog

A few years ago I purchased a copy of Jesus Calling by Sarah Young because it came so highly recommended. After reading the introduction and several9780989509336 entries I knew something wasn’t right and I got rid of the book. Maybe it was the audacity of someone presuming to speak in the first person on behalf of Jesus, or maybe it was because this “Jesus” didn’t sound like the Jesus I knew from scripture. “Another Jesus” Calling by Warren B. Smith addresses these valid concerns and why Young’s “Jesus” is not the Jesus of the Bible.

One issue with Young’s “Jesus” is that he uses New Age terminology and concepts that the real Christ doesn’t. For example, he invites the reader to become his “channel”. He describes himself as being above all and in all, a concept consistent with the New Age teaching of God Transcendent and God Immanent in every form of life.

He suggests that the reader “take a road less traveled” (hinting at M. Scott Peck’s book) and that to go “out on a limb” (the title of Shirley MacLaine’s book) with him is the safest place to be. As Smith writes, “…the true Jesus Christ is quite aware of these mega bestselling New Age books. It defies reason that he would make any kind of positive reference – directly or indirectly – to the titles of two of the most popular New Age books published in the last three decades. Taking “a road less traveled” with M. Scott Peck is not what we are called to do. Going “out on a limb” with Shirley MacLaine is not the safest place to be.”

Book Review: How to Protect Your Child From the New Age & Spiritual Deception

Dec 21st, 2013 Posted in Book/DVD Reviews, PRODUCT SPOTLIGHT | Comments Off on Book Review: How to Protect Your Child From the New Age & Spiritual Deception

From Books and Chocolate

Protecting our children from spiritual deception can seem a daunting task but How to Protect Your Child from the New Age & Spiritual Deception offers hope with practical steps Christian parents can take to become proactive in recognizing the dangers their children face while also teaching them to discern biblical truth. Berit Kjos has done her homework and documents how children and teens are being targeted with New Age and occultic messages through every form of media and in school curriculum and programs.

Some of the influence is attractively packaged in the form of a heroic young wizard, magical cats and ponies, powerful ninja warriors combating evil, cool anime characters, and vampire lovers. Other not so obvious messages come in the form of nature worship or Eastern religion type meditation disguised in schools as a quiet time of “mindfulness,” “centering,” or “visualization.”

Most surprising to me was that the Girl Scouts of America are on board as they now discourage the use of Christian emphasis in meetings but promote New Age spirituality in the form of yoga and meditation. The 2010 GSA brochure for their National Council Sessions stated, “Channel your inner-being. Be one with your mind, body and soul. Yoga for everyone!” (p.252) Kjos also documents that GSA has partnered with the Ashland Institute whose “Coming Into Your Own” program’s aim is to “create a team of adult champions who will model a search for integrated leadership that springs from a deep sense of self-knowledge.” The Ashland Institute also teaches a form of metaphysical energy healing described as “creative energy practice” which “deepens connection with the Source of Life” and the group is also partnered with The Fetzer Institute which offers a broad assortment of mystical, New Age/New Spirituality resources. Standing Fast in the Last Days DVD Back in Production

Lighthouse Trails is pleased to announce that it has brought Warren B. Smith’s lecture DVD Standing Fast in the Last Days back into production.

Standing-Fast-in-the-Last-DaysOn June 5th, 2008, former New Age follower Warren Smith spoke to 800 pastors at the Calvary Chapel Senior Pastors’ Conference in Murrieta, California. This took place because of a personal invitation by Chuck Smith, the late founder of the Calvary Chapel movement. Integrating his compelling testimony, Warren shared his deep concerns regarding the spiritual deception taking place in the church today. Covering topics such as the Emerging Church, Purpose-Driven, the New Age, and what is being called the New Spirituality, Warren exposed what may be the signs of a great falling away that the Bible has predicted will happen in the days before Christ’s return. Some of the topics Warren addressed were: the influence of Oprah Winfrey and Robert Schuller, a growing hostility toward biblical Christians, a plan for a false world peace, how mysticism is becoming an integral part of today’s society, and the interspiritual, ecumenical movement that is gaining momentum and deceiving many.

Book Review: In My Father’s House by Corrie Ten Boom

The Legacy of Home blog

In-My-Father-s-HouseCorrie ten Boom was one of the most inspiring people of our time. Her faith in God was incredible. She was called of Him to endure unbelievable pain and trials. Through it all, she was a light of hope and warmth, as an ambassador of the Kingdom of God.

Corrie is best known for her book, “The Hiding Place.” This is about the holocaust and the concentration camps. Her family hid Jewish people in their home, to protect them from the Nazis. Her family ended up in the camps. She was the only one from her family to survive the prison camps. She later became a “tramp for the Lord” (as one of her books is titled). She travelled and spoke about her faith and encouraged others.

I have read, and owned, several of Corrie’s books over the years. However, old books tend to fall apart over time and need to be replaced. The content of some books are so valuable, you want to get a new edition and take care of it as long as possible. “In My Father’s House” by Corrie, is one of those books.

. . .  This edition includes more than 50 photographs from Corrie’s childhood and home.  “In My Father’s House” is about her growing up years. It shows the foundation of her training and experiences that made her the strong, godly woman she was, which enabled her to endure the War and the aftermath.  Click here to continue reading.

Letter to the Editor: Lighthouse Trails Books Help Us Defend the Faith

Aug 9th, 2013 Posted in Book/DVD Reviews | Comments Off on Letter to the Editor: Lighthouse Trails Books Help Us Defend the Faith

Dear LHTE,

I have just finished Ray Yungen’s book A Time of Departing.  I cannot stress enough, what a great book this is on contemplative prayer, and all that is connected with the ancient mystical practices.  I would encourage everyone to read this, as it is a comprehensive book on what is happening in our churches, and the world around us.  He makes no accusations, that he does not back up, and you can see the study, and research he has put into writing this book.  I consider myself blessed that LHT, publishes these kinds of books, as I know they are not considered popular.

I also have read Ray’s book For Many Shall Come in My Name, and Kevin Reeves book, The Other Side of the River, and Warren Smith’s book, False Christ Coming, and I have learned so much from these authors.  I have recommended these books to friends and family, and they have made it into the hands of pastors, and others who are caught up into the Emergent Church.  When I defend the faith to others, I can do it, because of these authors, as they have written a wealth of information, and there are no other books that are such great resources.  If you are a watchman on the wall, these books should be in your library.

Blessings

BB
