TAPESTRY: The Journey of Laurel Lee

Tapestry: The Journey of Laurel Lee is the true story of Laurel Lee. Once called the "rags to riches" Cinderella of literature, Laurel's story takes readers on an adventure that will change their lives forever.

Diagnosed with terminal cancer at the age of 29 and then abandoned by her husband, leaving her with three young children to raise, Laurel survives the first round of cancer and before she knows it, a small hospital journal is sent to a New York publisher.

That book, Walking Through the Fire, takes Laurel and her children on a world-wide adventure of intrigue, challenge and fame. CBS makes a movie of the book and sales of the book and subsequent books exceed a half a million. And then in the summer of Laurel's life, when she has at last found true love and health, she hears those dreadful words again, "You have cancer, and you are going to die."

Laurel's Granddaughter is Born

On August 10th, 2004, Laurel Lee passed from this life into the heavenly home she so longed to see. Exactly nine months later, May 10th, 2005, her granddaughter, Laurel was born.

The Adventure You Will Never Forget
In the 1960s Laurel Lee hitchhikes to Alaska to homestead. As her life winds through the 1970s and 1980s Laurel is diagnosed with fourth stage Hodgkin's Disease and is abandoned by her husband. Knowing death may be an unwelcome, untimely guest, she takes her children around the world. Contrary to what doctors expected, Laurel survives cancer, her book is published and sells over 300,000 copies and CBS makes a movie of her life.

Eloquently, the story weaves through the 1990s and shares with the reader Laurel's discovery of true love in the most unexpected way to New York children's book author, Mike Thaler.

Then, in the summer of Laurel's life, threatening the transcendent happiness she and Mike share, Laurel once again faces the open jaws of death when doctors tell her she has advanced cancer and will soon die.

"Maybe it's my time . . . I have peace. The standard reply to any deep tragedy is an affirmation that God can do anything . . . I don't want to diminish the time I do have by constantly interceding for more. My attitude comes in trusting Him with all my heart and not leaning on my own understanding." October 21, 2003 page 276.

On August 10th 2004, Laurel Lee passed away after nearly a year long battle with Pancreatic Cancer. She was 58 years old.
