Product Description

On November 12, 2015, Religion News Service posted an article titled “Jesus Calling and the Policing of Theology.”1 It was a quick response to an article that reformed pastor and popular blogger Tim Challies had posted just the day before.2 The author of the RNS article, Laura Turner (a regular contributor for Christianity Today’s “Her.meneutics” blog), used her superficial criticism of Sarah Young’s best-selling book, Jesus Calling, as a smokescreen to actually express her disapproval of people who were issuing serious warnings about Young’s book. In a strange stab at free speech, Turner stated that “theology policing is a job best left to the Holy Spirit, and then to people who we know.” But in her effort to undermine Young’s critics by redefining spiritual discernment as “theology policing,” she does the very thing she accuses others of doing. Her entire article is a thinly disguised attempt to “police” those who don’t agree with her own take on Jesus Calling. After minimizing and marginalizing most of the issues that have been raised about Jesus Calling, Turner concludes that Young’s book is “a net positive” and “has been a tool through which many people have gotten closer to God.”

In her obvious endeavor to whitewash the many problems found in Jesus Calling, Turner is especially upset with Tim Challies. She goes out of her way to single him out and take him to task for describing Jesus Calling as a “dangerous” book. But in her rush to isolate and discredit Challies, she overlooks the fact that he is not alone in coming to that conclusion. There are many of us who completely agree.

Beware of devotionals that are pleasing to the ear only.

It's one thing to give counsel on BEHALF or our Lord, its another thing to give council AS OUR LORD. These are not the words of Jesus, it is obviously clear for anyone with discernment. When I became a Christian many years ago we were all reading Jesus Calling, and after 6 months of reading scripture, I was not at all comfortable reading Jesus Calling. It is deceiving. I was involved in the occult for many years, and by the grace of God I was shown the truth. This pamphlet, the 10 Scriptural Readings Why Jesus Calling is Dangerous could have been written by myself because Warren Smith mentioned everything regarding the occult, that I myself practiced for 25+ years. I am glad I found this and I hope this review helps someone with a decision.

10 scriptural reasons why Jesus Calling is a dangerous book

What a resource this is! I can't express enough how thankful I am for this booklet. I was deceived in a major way when someone gifted me a "beautiful" purple Jesus Calling book. I was reading it in the mornings instead of my Bible. My friend and I would share about what we read. One day, she called me to tell me she felt so guilty of son worship after reading the devotion about Abraham and Isaac. She told me that maybe the reason her 3-year-old daughter died of cancer is because she was guilty of this and God took her away. I didn't know what to say, but now I do! God is using Warren B Smith booklet to open my eyes to the deception and how the deception can be some truth and some false just like when the devil answered Jesus when he was tempted in the wilderness. Now I know it is a dangerous book!

Well worth purchasing

This is well laid out, straightforward, and a quick read. The concerns are clear when it’s shown that changes have been made since the original “Jesus Calling” was published.

One point, though. In reason #10 about laughing at the future, Proverbs 31:25 in the NASB (1995) says, “Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she smiles at the future.” I’m not suggesting that Ms Young heard correctly, nor am I defending what she said, but I am just pointing out that this verse exists. How does the author take a verse like this into account within his rebuttal of “Jesus Calling”?

Editor's and Author's Note: Context is what is important here. Most Bible translations - like the KJV, NKJV, NAS, and Amplified versions - emphasize the idea of rejoicing, smiling, confidence in, and readiness for the future rather than scornfully laughing at the future like the Jesus of "Jesus Calling" seems to suggest.

Excellent

This booklet contains an excellent explanation of the dangers of Jesus Calling. I highly recommend this. If you have someone who is reading the Jesus Calling Devotional, it will help you explain to them in detail why this is a dangerous book. Order several to hand out!!

Excellent booklet

I wish everyone who devoted to Jesus Calling would read this. Unfortunately, I'm going to have to surreptitiously leave copies around the church, since this book has a fanatical following, including by people who should know better.

A Must Have to Give to Friends

I have many friends who have bought Jesus Calling and have unwittingly been caught up in it’s deception. This booklet is an excellent tool to help educate people about the danger of that book.
Warren Smith lays out an excellent case as to why Jesus Calling is not something that
Christians should be reading. In a day where most Christians lack discernment, I’m so thankful for Warren and his godly wisdom that can be shared with others to hopefully open their eyes to the enemy’s tactics.

10 Scriptural Reasons Why Jesus Calling is a Dangerous Book.

Following the Biblical admonition to judge everything according to God's Word, this booklet does an invaluable service to the Body of Christ by showing what the title proclaims. Hopefully we will find believers reading its warnings as readily as they read what this booklet refutes. Pastor Tom, West Harrison NY.

A Must Read

Several years ago I gave Jesus Calling to my daughter for Christmas. Now, after much research on what is happening in our world and in our churches today, I am so thankful that she was uncomfortable reading it and never finished it. Books and messages like this are why the Bible tells us to test all things.

This is a very informative, easy to read booklet on the dangers and unbiblical view of Sara Young and her writtings. A must read for anyone who has or read or knows friends who have her books.

I have ordered several of these booklets and shared them with friends. Only 1 of my friends is still reading Jesus Calling after having read this booklet. I'm thankful for Warren B. Smith's research and wisdom.
