Table of Contents/Preface/Introduction

One in every six boys is sexually abused. That's just the ones who eventually tell their secret. The Color of Pain speaks to the professionals, pastors, and loved ones as well as to the boys and men who were abused. And who better to write a book like this than one of the victims who has lived the pain and later experienced the healing through Christ. The Color of Pain is a combination of some of the facts that most don't think about and some of the pain that most won't talk about. Whether you are one of the abused or someone who knows someone abused, this book is a moving and necessary read.

"I belong to a company of men and boys, mostly silent and scared. So few have survived well enough to talk about it. I know I have to talk, because I DID survive, and because I see them in every group I meet, from five to seventy-years-old suffering, silent victims who are not really considered REAL victims by many, since the male species, in their minds, should be able to fend off any abuse. No matter how little they were. No one really defends boy and men victims. So we've stayed silent. Wouldn't you?" Gregory Reid, The Color of Pain

Some key areas addressed in this book:

* Looking for the signs of sexual abuse
* Where predators hunt
* Myths about Abused Boys
* What a Victim Looks Like
* Why Boys and Men Don't Talk About Their Abuse
* The Hurt of Being Different
* What Not to Tell Abused Boys and Men

Important and unfortunately necessary resource

The information in this book should be "required reading" for every adult in every church. Too many children are subjected to the humiliation and pain of molestation, and too many adults are oblivious to the extent of the problem, nor are they attuned to the signals that would cause them to question.
Until adults take up the responsibility to protect children - not only their own children, but also their own - when it's hard or uncomfortable, children remain at grave risk of predators. The professing church has become the place where we do not talk about difficult subjects, we do not say unpleasant things even when they are true, we do not confront sin in the midst, and we do not stand up for the vulnerable among us. This must change, and The Colour of Pain could be that wake-up call in your church!

THE COLOR OF PAIN

AN OUTSTANDING BOOK. WHEN YOU HAVE NEVER BEEN SEXUALLY ASSAULTED AS A BOY, IT IS NEXT TO IMPOSSIBLE TO HAVE ANY EMPATHY, BECAUSE YOU DO NOT KNOW OR UNDERSTAND HOW AN ASSAULTED BOY'S LIFE IS CHANGED, WHAT IT DOES TO HIM, HOW HE IS DESTROYED. THIS BOOK GIVES ALL OF THOSE ANSWERS AND MORE.
THIS BOOK ALSO EXPLAINED TO ME WHY I FROZE AS A 22 YEAR OLD MAN WHEN I WAS SEXUALLY ASSAULTED BY MY SUPERIOR OFFICER. FOR YEARS I THOUGHT THAT THE FACT THAT I FROZE MEANT THAT I WAS GAY. THIS EVENT HAPPENED 48 YEARS AGO, AND IT WAS THIS BOOK THAT SET ME FREE FROM ALL OF THE SELF-DOUBT THAT I HAVE HAD FOR ALL OF THESE YEARS. PRAISE GOD FOR THIS BOOK. IT SHOULD BE MANDATORY READING FOR ALL MEN.
