Described as a Christian novel, The Shack, written by William Paul Young, sat on the New York Times bestseller list for over 172 consecutive weeks (including 52 weeks at #1), and over 10 million copies of the book are in print.1 Many Christians have purchased multiple copies and given them to friends and family.

The Shack reads as a true story, but is obviously allegorical fiction. The book conveys postmodern spiritual ideas and teachings that challenge biblical Christianity—all in the name of “God” and “Jesus” and the “Holy Spirit.” Author William P. Allegorical novels can be a clever way to present truth. They can also be used to present things that seem to be true but really are not. Some books like The Shack do both.

These booklets are a blessing. Short but very to the point of the serious issues with biblical insight as to why. A head start for people to then search the scriptures for Truth.

So Glad You Made These Available!

I purchased a package earlier in the year and fortunately, the booklet, The Shack, was included. I took the booklet and shared it with my pastor just a few days after the movie was released. We talked about it and I told him, if he felt the information would be helpful to others, I offered to purchase 10 additional copies that he could share as he wanted. Two weeks after I gave him the copies, he came up to me after church and said, 'I put the copies on the 'welcome table' and they 'flew off' the table and I made a note of who took the booklets...' This is a great booklet to help one see the subtle deception of today's false religion. Many get caught up in what the popular new thing is without wisely realizing the sirens of deception. This booklet is enlightening.

"The Shack" Booklet

I really appreciated the connections made in the booklet between the book/movie and the new age, particularly the panentheism, fractals and "connectedness" of Young's Universal Reconciliation viewpoint. I would have liked to see more about the blasphemy and heresy contained in book/movie regarding the unbiblical and extra-biblical presentation and description of "God" and the gospel. Regardless of the story line and theology of any book or movie, the simple act of writing a book or producing a movie that describes or depicts God/Christ in any way is, in and of itself, blasphemy and heresy. The Shack and Its New Age Leaven

Warren Smith does an excellent job of analyzing "The Shack" in this booklet. I've warned my congregation of the coming movie, "The Shack" which is coming out in 2017, and I will be making this booklet available to them for their consideration. As always, Warren does a wonderful job of explaining this issue that is understandable and he, furthermore, supplements his writing with other resources.
