Product Description

LECTIO DIVINA—There’s a lot of talk about it today; umpteen books are published and more are on the way about lectio divina; and an increasing number of evangelical/Protestant figures are writing about it, endorsing it, and teaching it. Some people think lectio divina simply means to read a passage of Scripture slowly (or “praying the Scriptures”) then ponder or think on that Scripture. That can be a part of it. But if you ask mystics or contemplatives what it really entails (And who would know better than they?), they will tell you that lectio divina (pronounced lex-ee-o di-veen-a) always includes taking a passage of Scripture (or other writings), reading it slowly, and repeating it as you work your way down to where you have just a word or small phrase from the passage that you are “meditating” on (repeating over and over). Basically, you are coming up with a mantra-like word or phrase that has been extracted from a passage of Scripture, which, according to contemplatives, if repeated for several minutes, will help you get rid of thoughts and distractions, so then, they say, you can hear the voice of God and feel His presence (going into the silence).

Lectio Divina

Good stuff right here! Short and right to the matter of it all. bought a packet of booklets for a women's bible study I attend. The study we are doing now by Natalie Chambers Snapp called "Becoming Heart Sisters" on page 59 has a whole section on Lectio Divina. So I am going to use that moment as a learning/sharing opportunity for them and hand out the booklets. I am anticipating the pushback, but we'll see!
Please keep up the good work that you do and blessings to you all at Lighthouse Trails.

Lectio Divinia: What is it, What it is Not, and Should Christians Practice it?

I became concerned when the ladies group at our large church offered a class which included Lectio Divinia as an option for personal Bible study time. Your booklet is thorough and easy to understand. I ordered three copies and keep one in the back of my Bible in case the subject comes up so I can present some accurate information on the subject.

Wake up from the Dead

Jesus said ' Wake up from the dead and Christ shall give you light". It is so sad to see the Church blindly walking into the deceit of occultic spirituality without any thought of the consequences or the author of it. Wake up church!!!

Lectio Divina

The NZ Bible Society handed out 10,000 free copies of The Field Guide to the Bible at Easter camps this year (2018). The 108-page book has a section on Hearing God Through the Bible. I have just seen this book for the first time and it is horrendous. The ways to hear from God include imagining (including imagining Jesus sitting in a chair next to you and ask Him Questions), keeping a journal where you can write God questions, then write a response beginning with, "Today, I am saying to you..." and keep writing as if from God. But there is also a page on Lectio Divina and how to practice it There are other bad things in the book too. I am horrified that so many New Zealand youth have been exposed to these things. And to make things worse, many of the young people at these camps are not saved. Satan is really working up a big attack on young people and children. I am thankful to Lighthouse Trails for producing this booklet.

Lectio Divina: What is it, What it is Not, and Should Christians Practice it?

This was the first time I had actually read what Lectio Divina is all about. The contents of the booklet provided enough information to alert me to the dangers of this practice. Lectio Divina is NOT the Biblical way to study God's Word. It is just one more Eastern-mystical way to go into a altered state of consciousness and 'hear' strange messages for spirit beings. Very dangerous indeed.
